NeCSOs Launched The Political and Civic Engagement Project in Western Equatoria State (8th/11/2024).

The Network for Civil Society Organizations (NeCSOs)-Western Equatoria State launched a Political and Civic Engagement Project funded by the United Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) quick Impact Project. This project covers all the 10 Counties in the State and will be focusing on three key peace implementation elements; Permanent constitution making process, election process, Civic and political space. This project was planned for 6 months which started in September 2024 with project inductions and other arrangements and will end in February 2025. The major aim of this project is to sensitize the people of Western Equatoria State to understand the key components of these processes, encourage them to participate once the government avail the opportunity and also call on the National government with all other levels of the government to prioritize the implementation of these processes to foster peace and economic advancement of this country.  

NeCSOs management is grateful to all the national and state institutions with whom the Civil Society will be partnering in the implementation of this project. These include the Ministry of Local Government and law enforcement, state ministry for peace building, State election high committee and National Constitutional Review Commission representatives in the state. “Thanks for the good start and the great collaboration till we successfully end the implementation of this project.” As well NeCSOs management is grateful to @UNMISS starting from the office of the SRSG to the state Field office headed by Jane Kony for the trust and partnership Civil Society organizations in the state continue to enjoy. This shows the commitment of the mission to transform local institutions and love to support peace programs in the country, Civil Society Organizations in Western Equatoria state promise to commit to this partnership.

NeCSOs had extended invitations to various institutions including the Governor’s office, all ministries, schools and even groups of casual’s workers to come and witness this remarkable launching which brought over 500 individuals together at the freedom square of Yambio, Western Equatoria State. The Governor of Western Equatorial State, H.E. Lt. Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba was the guest of honor and he again stated that; he declared the Political and Civic Space from the bottom of his heart. He wants the people of Western Equatorial State to speak about politics without any restriction. He calls upon the Civil Society Organizations to continue working together with government for better results in the state and the country at large.
